Summers are becoming hotter and drier in many places. Prolonged periods of drought not only affect young trees, but increasingly also older and otherwise established specimens. But what does it mean when a tree loses leaves in the middle of summer, or appears generally weakened?
The good news: Trees possess amazing adaptability and regenerative abilities. The crucial factor is how quickly and effectively they are supported after a period of drought.
This article explains what happens in a tree during a dry period, how to recognize drought stress, and how you can support your tree's regeneration step by step.

Drought damages not only the fine roots but also the soil life. Microorganisms, fungi, and earthworms need moisture to remain active. If the soil remains dry for an extended period, many biological processes slow down considerably.

The tree bath Vital bath This effect is complemented by expanding and activating soil life and nourishing it with plant-based ingredients. At the same time, it supports the formation of new root hairs and helps the tree to absorb water and nutrients more efficiently.
Both products can easily be mixed in the same watering can and applied together. This allows the positive properties of both products to be combined in a single application.

For optimal regeneration, we recommend applying worm compost liquid fertilizer and Vital Bath together in the watering can. Both products can be mixed and complement each other in their effects: While the worm compost restores soil life to the root zone, Vital Bath expands, nourishes, and activates the existing microorganisms.
Which trees recover particularly well?
The ability to regenerate depends on the tree species, its age, and the extent of the damage. Many deciduous trees, such as linden, maple, hornbeam, or oak, can often recover surprisingly well after drought stress. Birches, beeches, and spruces are often more sensitive.
Nevertheless, it's important not to give up on weakened trees too quickly. Often, it's only in the following spring that the true extent of their regeneration becomes apparent.
When should you consult a professional?
Some damage goes beyond normal drought stress. A professional assessment is advisable if:
- larger parts of the crown are dead
- severe cracks appear on the trunk
